I hope they will continue supporting E71 users cause i don't see any reason to upgrade. I'm still waiting for a decent firmware release for E71..still waiting..

    Has finally _gone_ on sale.

I think it is a worthwhile upgrade, if for nothing else, to move away from the 2mm charger port to usb like everyone else does.

I do plan to upgrade to this device, but I will wait a couple months to see some reviews based on the released device and I would imagine that the price will come down a bit as well.

The screen is still too small. Even for e 71 you need font magnifier program in order to read the screen. Not a good choose at all.

I dunno what your problem with the font is - I've selected the smallest font everywhere and I still think it could be a tad smaller and still be readable.
(And I think my eyes are pretty bad, -6 and -7 dioptrine...)

Maybe E71 is different than E71x. I have E71x & must set fonts
as large as possible to be comfortable with my glasses on. Had to install cclock to have a comfortably readable Date/Time screen saver on the home screen.

Having not long bought my e71, i cant justify splashing out for what seems to be nothing more than a facelift. If you have the money to splash out for a usb charge feature then fill your boots. Personally, I'm off to go buy an otterbox to make sure my e71 lasts as long as poss.

$470 for an extremely minor redesign. No thanks, Nokia. You're not fleecing away my $ from me this time.

It's more than a minor face lift. It"s a faster processor & double the
internal memory which should speed it up quite a bit. The 3.5mm headphone jack would be nice. Still I agree with those saying that's the way the e71 should have been to begin with. Also a tad bigger screen is really what is needed for this form factor & feature pack phone to make it a big deal. I'll stay satisfied with my e71x.

Fair comment Stephen.....(here comes the but).......but don't you think the e72's upgrades are very subtle. It may attract new users and I certainly get the feeling the "upgraders" won't be upgrading to this. If your cars manufacturer brought a new model of the car you already own out, with an mp3 player socket and 10 more horsepower would you fork out the extra for it?

I'll stick to the old model..and TBH..i think it looks better too.

kepec, yeh, I doubt the e72 will generate that much sales from customers upgrading from an e71 but it should do well with 1st
timers looking for a smart phone in this form factor & those ready to
move from something else. I also think it's cosmeticly a step
backwards. The e71 & e71x were more distinguishable from the
crowd I think. The trim on the e72 makes it look more like so many
of the rest. I hope it does well for Nokia. Ovi maps (Nokia Maps) is
awesome by the way on these Nokia phones! Fully download-able
offline search-able maps with ability to plan route & navigate from
GPS offline with no data charges!!! Can't do that with an iphone.

dont get me started on that bloody iphone...its a toy and a rip off lol

The E71 is amazingly robust too!!
I dropped mine in my beer at a cricket ODI and it resurrected itself about 3 days later - http://www.bukisa.com/articles/167494_my-nokia-...

Oh wow...Moto's Droid, HTC Dragon, and the new Sony. There is no way I would buy an e72 with phones like this coming very soon.
  • tony11111 · 2 months ago
is it really worth it to upgrade to the e72 since the e71 has not really wowed me? I think I'll wait til the ovi platform develop more first.
Look forward to seeing more post of the e 72 to see what users say.

I'm one of those people who think that the E71 is the finest phone that Nokia has ever made.

Slim, aesthetically pleasing, sensational battery life, great RF performance, stable, great multitasking, etc. The only things wrong with it were the camera and the 2.5mm headphone socket. So much was right that it hardly mattered though.
