Help me.... Like u said there are many 3rd party applications,
i need one that is compatible with NOKIA E71. NOKIA wants me to pay $120.99 for 1 year license and that's just for one region. don't u think that's a bit too much. I am not a NOKIA hater, but if they don't do something about their license fee, there won't be a Map 3.0. Just my 2 cents.
BEFORE I bought the device, $450 not including all the Nokia chargers and extra items, I called Nokia on more than one occasion and spoke to the level 2 tech help. I wanted to make sure that the device would route me from address A to Address B without having to buy extra AT&T services AND without having to buy extra Nokia licenses for the GPS software in the phone. I was reassured on two separate occasions that the phone would route me from A to B without extra charges. They told me there was an additional package I could buy that would enable the phone to announce the rout to me and I was also told about the city guides. All I wanted was to have the E71 route me from A to B. I bought the phone and for a week it was routing me. As soon as the week was up every time I try to have the phone route me to an address the GPS asks me to BUY a license, ~$110 a year. I called Nokia and spoke to level 2 customer service and they said that the old version of the GPS software rev 1.2 would allow you to route for free but now that they upgraded the software to 2.0 that version won't let you do that without buying a GPS license. This was the very thing I was trying to avoid! I called up and spoke to someone at the Executive Resolution desk and they said that it is written in the the policy of Nokia to be able to make this change change without notification and I was referred to find the policy on the Nokia USA web site. CASE CLOSED!!
The phone does all that people say it can do and I haven't had any reception problems but if you are buying the phone for it's GPS service from Nokia forget-about-it!!!! GOOGLE does have a great application to download that takes great advantage of the built in GPS. GOOGLE does route you but it won't re-route you as you drive without trying to find the tiny key strokes to re-route you. A dangerous practice when driving in Boston traffic. The Wi-Fi works well and the FM radio is OK. The phone has locked up on me but not as much as an old windows HTC mobile 6.0(?) phone I had. I wish I could place more than 6 one touch icons on the home display. I don't know why the limit id six.
As for add on programs I found that the IPhone, less money than the E71 has more applications. My old Nokia 6230 had a better radio and all but WiFi and GPS on it and was super. I wish I never bought the E71. I'm stuck with it.
