I only have a 2GB card, but because I do not use audio, video or photograph my phone is more than enough. Only 50% full, soft and even with Garmin's map of my country. Other pictures, some of the Simpsons download 3gp clip, some of the music I uploaded some time ago I chose the ring.

OK, I had purchased my new SanDisk Mobile microSDHC 16GB card for mobile phones, does not give a class that i can see and did not come pkg'ed with an adapter. My phone has a 4GB card in it, I have had it for a month and says card has already used almost 2GIGS! I don't see how, but okay. 2 questions. First, is/are there any Nokia loaded apps that I would be very upset to lose in the change over? Are the apps I DL going to be lost? I bought a Blue-tooth connector for my laptop, and a double ended usb for data transfer. I also have 30GB from Sugar Sync which gives me the Magic Briefcase for syncing PC to Phone....From at least ONE of these methods, can I save any apps, not just data? I do have an unopened 4GB SanDisc that DOES have the adapter. Can I use that one with my 16GB card if I have to? I had thought this would be a nothing thing to do, but I have clearly been mistaken.

I don't have experience with the Class 4 card, but the problems I had with Class 2 were entirely eliminated, when I purchased a Class 6 16GB card.

I had that problem with an 8GB SDHC Class 4 PNY brand. I fixed it by formatting the card in my PC using the micro/SD card adapter although it only formatted it as a 3.2GB. Then reformatted with my E71 to 8GB. However the card goes corrupt if I put it back in my computer.

I only write/read to the card via the E71 now.

Try a standard speed (25Mhz) card instead of hi-speed (50Mhz). I've had lots of corruption problems with hi-speed cards but none with standard speed. Reads on the hi-speed cards (Transcend Class 6) were only 2MB/sec higher than the standard speed cards (19MB/sec vs 17MB/sec).

I started with a 16GB class 2 card, but encountered some of the same problems named in other comments here (corrupted music files and such). I moved to a 16GB class 6 card and those problems have largely diminished. Strangely, I had the problem where "help" files would not be displayed (memory error) and, with the class 6 card, that problem has not materialized. I'm not sure if I can attribute that solution to the memory card, though.

On the other hand, I have had one instance when the memory card was spontaneously reformatted - yup, I turned it off, at night, and charged it up, then turned it on the following morning and found the card was entirely reformatted. And, I've had one instance when the class 6 card was so badly corrupted that the Nokia E71 thought it had been encrypted. Even Windows insisted that it needed to be formatted, rather than reading it.

Probably 30% of the time, after I pull the card and use a card reader to transfer data to/from my laptop, I find the music files need to be re-scanned again. Oh, and my laptop (Vista Ultimate x64) has almost never been able to "see" the memory card, while it's in the phone, using Nokia PC Suite. I always need to pull the card and use a card reader, to transfer data directly from PC to the memory card.

So, in the end, a larger card simply presents more data to carefully back up, since the phone will screw up the card, given time. Overall, I find my E71 is rougher on memory cards than my old Palm T3 or the iPAQ devices (neither of which have ever corrupted data or pulled the other stunts I've experienced with the E71). I'm glad to use the larger card, but it's not been smooth.

I'm running an 8GB Class-4 card with only one issue.

This is my primary music player, whether in the car (via aux port) or via headphones.

I like large playlists so I don't hear the same thing in a few days.I have to be careful about how big a playlist I create on the phone, though. Because file transfer speeds via PC Suite are snail-paced, I have a large set of files marked in a single genre and create a playlist right on the phone after transferring via SDHC USB adapter.

The issue is that every time I tried to do one with over 1500 songs (actually, I think it was around 1900) the phone would lock up when trying to create it.

Currently, I use a playlist of about 800 songs, and it works great at that size. At this size playlist, I do get the added benefit of having plenty of room for Maps 3.0 data.

I have had some real issues with the 16GB card which I installed when I first got the E71. It kept telling me that my music files were corrupt and had to rescan.... then kept freezing. The player found and played the files but I also had problems viewing any file other than music i.e photos, videos presentations etc. I formated the card withing the handset several times but reverted to same issues every time. I have since used an 8GB which works fine, if anyone has some ideas for my 16GB card please let me know as I am quickly running out of storage space. It's a standard class 2 card but I can't really see how this would impair reading.

I only have a 2Gb card... but as I'm not using my phone for audio, video or taking pictures, is more than enough. Only 50% filled, even with the Garmin soft (Which I installen on the SD) and my country maps. Also some pictures, some 3gp simpsons clips (xDDD), some music I uploaded some time ago to choose my ringtones (and, lazy me, never deleted the ones I ain't using xD). I really don't like to use a phone as a music player... (the perfect excuse to buy an iPod Touch xD), and REALLY don't like to take pictures with it... night pictures are always a problem with most cameraphones, and the only moments I want to picture are by night...

The only issue I've had with my 8g card is having to reboot the phone after transfering data on an Ubuntu box. Always says memory card unavailable. No biggy.
I have tried to use SymSMB but it seems the company no longer supports the product. Did you have a license before this occured or is there another way?

Yep. I ve had a 16gb card since I got my phone, I went on to a website that said it only handles up to 8gb, I wish they fix that. 16 is well supported. Im up to about 10gb used.. with all kinds of stuff, I no longer carry an extra usb stick, I now save everything in this card and keep it with me all the time.

It's not just the messages - I had my messages stored on an 8 gig card, and one day they all disappeared, and next thing I know, the card shows itself as blank. All my mp3s and documents - gone. It was a Nokia card too! It was incredibly infuriating and frustrating, and I ended up switching back to my 2 gig card.

i have 8gb micro sd, and i selected it in messaging (messages store in memory card) after sometime 8gb sd card is not supported in messaging, we can't read messages, now i feel i do a big mistake to buy a 8gb sdcard, I also mail this problem to mike@e71fanatics.com , but no reply
