Thanks Mike, Im gonna order the "2.5mm to 3.5mm Stereo Audio Jack Adapter". I will hook it up with my old iPod Classic headphones which is super loud!
  • john boyle · 5 months ago
e71x users be aware: the standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio jack adapter will not work! it will only give mono sound. AT&T has changed the jack, and you will need to order a universal headset jack adapter. I can confirm that this one from amazon that i have ordered works great!

Thanks John, I'll update the article with those headphones for E71x users and probably add them to a page I'm working on for ALL E71 headphones.

I have just ordered the Nokia AD-61 adapter.

Will update with how it sounds.

I have same adaptor above in photo and when pulled out the hiss does go away hence my need to upgrade the adapter to 3 poles instead of the 2 pole.

Yeah I bought the seinheiser headphones that Mr. Tehk recommended. They are beast. I use them on my ipod right now. I ordered an 2.5mm to 3.5 mm adapter, it's on the way, then i will enjoy the music on my E71 :)
    Mike, thanks tho :D

OK guys, I don“t understand this: you plug in a different head set, you get better sound, but what about the mic that the original headset has? I mean, what happens when you receive a call? You have to switch off the music, unplug the headset and take the call, right? :(
  • Jejoma · 5 months ago
When you plug the headphones in you should get an option that allows you to use the phone mic combined with the headset to receive a call. You don't have to unplug the headset.

Yeah, it asked, it's either headphones, headset or music stand. When u choose headphones, it tell you to choose Phone Microphone, so you keep the headphones on and just bring the phone closer for the mic.

I have tried many different ways to maximize the sound from my E71. I have tried a few different stereo bluetooths to no avail (Jabra, Motorola, Cardo) All of them lacked volume, bass and range. Phone in my pocket while riding bike, all of them would have an intermitent signal.

As for using an adapter. I could use my own headphones, but, having to pull the phone out of pocket to get close to the mic to speak kind of defeated the purpose to me.

What has worked best for me is an original HS-47 that I modified. In my opinion, the original earbuds sound horrid. With a little work, I replaced them with my own earbuds. The result is that I can use my own earbuds without an adapter and no need to pull out the phone to speak, increased volume and gobs of bass.

As a sidenote, I have also tried 2 different bluetooth receivers where you can use your own headphones as well. Having a few feet of extra headphone cord to go to the reciever dangling off of your neck? Might as well plug it into the phone. Of course you could clip the receiver to your hip, but, then again if you got a call you'd have to unclip it and bring it up to your mouth in order to talk. Not practical while doing activities. Also, having to charge an additional item all of the time didn't suit my needs. Being able to listen to my music without bluetooth drawing on my battery was a plus. I go on very long bike rides, so, every little bit of battery I can save is a good thing, not to mention being able to answer my calls without having to stop what I am doing. If anyone is wondering, there is no hiss doing the HS-47 mod that many have mentioned when using certain adapters. Sure, you'll have to sacrifice a pair of earbuds/headphones to do the mod and use them only for your E71, but, for me the mod was well worth the time and effort. I got my E71 sounding so nice I stopped using my other mp3 player altogether anyway. Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps someone :-)

    Hello all,

Just received my Nokia AD-61 adapter(2.5mm to 3.5mm) today and I connected a Sony DJ style stereo headset and only the right channel works. I pulled the headset out a bit and voila, STEREO. So you guys are saying that the 2 ring adapter will work better in my E-71? Will order and see. Thanks for all the good advices.

The standard music player on my E71 sounds like a karaoke machine in a bathroom. Tried nearly all possible settings with only crappy sound results. Did some googlin and found a FREE mp3 player. Even via the standard headphone the sound is very good!
