on the e61i there was a shortcut to turn bluetooth off and on but not sure if that is the case with the e71..same thing w\ GSM/3G..wonder if there could be a shortcut rather than going into all the steps
@samgonzales: shortcut for turning on and off the bluetooth is by holding down * on the homescreen.
How do I turn off 3G... can't seem to figure that out. Any shortcut?
In terms of battery life, I get a maximum of 2 days, with not too intense usage, here in Spain. When I am in Holland, it'll go for 4-5 days instead. Strange...
this can be as well due to network coverage in Spain & Holland is bit differ, especially when you are living in border area. you phone will kepp maintain too many signal for preparation of HO (Hand Over)
hope it explained.
Ciao From Jakarta
Good luck and good tip!
As for the switch from 3G to GSM, I have mine set on Dual Mode so it switches itself as needed. You can go into the Phone Settings and switch manually between Dual Mode, UTMS or GSM under Network... on the E71 NAM, at least.
Oh, and the alarm clock still works, it will turn the phone on for the alarm.
This will not work if you are working as supplier, customer will kill you if they can't call you when emergency need to be handled...he..he..he...
just kidding
Ciao...

Thanks, Mad
- use a minimal theme (no reloading of the background)
- notification light (heartbeat) off. mine's off permanently as it annoys me anyway :-)
- packet data "when needed" instead of "when available"
- periodic email checking off
- screen saver to "blank" instead of one of the animated ones
- worldmate updates and weather reports off
- advanced call manager off
A little app to do all this stuff for you would be nice, as spending 5 minutes digging through all the menus probably eats up a fair chunk of the remaining battery life itself :-)
A friend of mine is convinced that switching the phone offline instead of off will save battery overall, as the battery cost of booting is high. i'm not convinced..
my E71 lasts usually 4 Days, and I'm happy :)
Greetings from Austria
I'm starting to be concerned about my battery life on my phone. How many days are you guys getting out of your E71's? Please describe your usage. At the moment I'm going getting about 2 days with a few voice calls (longest one would of been about 10 minutes), sms and about 2-6 emails coming through a day. My previous settings were Dual mode for network, wifi scanning off, email retrieval every 5 minutes and light sensor on max. As far as I know there's no programs running in the background. At the moment I've changed the network mode to GSM and email retrieval to every 30 minutes doesn't seem to have made much difference as my battery is on 2 bars (28% says device status) and I only took it off the charge yesterday morning. Surely I should be getting more usage out of the battery? Maybe my battery is faulty.. Will Nokia change over the battery straight away or will they have to test it first? Any help will be greatful, thanks!
p.s. Good site!
a) The battery lasts for only 2.5 days, even though my usage is an hour of incoming and an hour of outgoing and an hour of listening to FM Radio.
b) While dialing, if there is no response from the other side, the phon's RED (disconnect) button doesn't works.

I'm a fan of my E71. I've installed Garmin XT and I learned that it is a battery killer. It runs a hidden process called tsrautostart even if you don't use the GPS which causes significant battery drain.
To kill this process you can use a genuine tool called Jbak TaskMan. It's a free task manager for Symbian.
When I go to Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Network Mode I only see two options: Dual mode and UMTS.
All the tutorials say to select GSM mode to save power. Am I missing something?
I cannot connect to my WLAN wireless modem. It says Gateway access problem. Can anyone help?
Cheers
A
Regarding forgotten applications running in the background: is there a way to see/display/monitor this? Maybe a shortcut? Or a shortcut to switch them off?
Thanks.
Try Nokia Power Profiler and check your battery for battery usage. For me in stand by (idle with backlight on) is 0.20W
With inserted memory card (where is Garmin) is 0.38W
You can kill proces with Xplore also (it is in SYS/bin)
My battery is now good for 4 days (with Garmin's hidden process was two days)
I cannot connect to my WLAN wireless modem. It says Gateway access problem. Can anyone help?

from a carrier?
I try to update my software but It says that I have latest software edition for my e71..
I noticed that usually battery life with normal using and using more than I do is around 2-3 days :(
Should I ask for new phone or go to authorized service( but why should I, phone is new)???
What I should do?
Thank you very much...
