Nokia E71 Fanatics Blogs: E71 Firmware Update: Version 300.21.012 Brings Minor Fixes & Updates

  • Adrian · 6 months ago
Not up in Australia yet either. E71-1
  • Jason · 6 months ago
It's available in Australia for E71-1 product code 0561929 (white steel). I just changed my grey steel product code to get it.
  • S6. · 6 months ago
How does it look like? Is it cool or one more way to delete all your data?
  • Jason · 6 months ago
Still updating.. will let you know.
  • S6. · 6 months ago
I still cannot see an update for my nokia product code:

I checked using Nokia Software Updater - nothing
I reinstalled Nokia Software Updater - nothing
Tried verifying the product code on Nokia web-page - nothing
Searched which codes got the update - nothing
Downloaded NSS to try changing my phones product code........

First I was frustrated but now I don't even care because my time is more precious than trying to install an update which will fix nothing for me. It will not make the phone stop restarting for random reasons, it will not make it faster, it will not stop the accumulation of crap after each install and uninstall... And UDP - why is that not in the update!

I will skip this one and all the rest until I hear people saying: "You know what? I updated my Nokia E71 and there are so many new cool things available..."
  • Mike Macias · 6 months ago
What country are you in? I'm gonna wait a bit too.
  • S6. · 6 months ago
Hi Mike, I live in Sweden, E71 product code 0570151. As I said before the update will not make a big difference for me. It is for the general public. If it was going to upgrade to fp2 then it is another question. Cheers!
  • Madoda Hlongwane · 6 months ago
Correction Mike, I updated using #OviSuite and all my PIM (Contacts, Calendar, Sms', Notes) data was preserved (it takes u through a Backup and Restore before and after updating). A large number of installed apps were also restored (Gravity, TweetS60, OperaMini, GmailApp, MobiReader, YouTube, Palringo, Screenshot, etc). Among those that were not restored is NokiaMessaging, QuickOffice v6, MSDict, OVIStore, FreeTimebox, ShazamID, etc.
  • Mike Macias · 6 months ago
Wow. That's good to hear they are at least trying to make the process of backup/restore smooth. Maybe I'll give it a try. I just checked on my firmware and it's not available.
  • Nimamohseni · 6 months ago
Didn't we already have Internet radio and my Nokia app?
  • S6. · 6 months ago
There is but there was a software update for the Internet Radio app some time ago - in case you missed it :)
  • Edwin · 6 months ago
Had my update. Here in the Philippines
  • Vennz · 6 months ago
I saw there's a facebook widget added to the firmware

    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/10016_...

    Have anyone tried it?
  • stoodi · 6 months ago
I've installed new firmware, works ok, but I had problems with internet connection after restoring settings, so had to installl new firmware second time and restore only contacts, callendar, and video/audio. (using Ovi Suite 2.0beta)

This 3 new "apps" facebook, myspace, youtube, are only shortcuts to web pages! shame Nokia...
  • Me · 6 months ago
helloox 1.0x (forgot which i dled...) doesn't work anymore :x Sucks sucks suckssss
  • Bounch · 6 months ago
Thanks so much Vennz for the news about the Facebook widget :) I'm going to update.

I have a sim locked phone (orange) with a orange firmware, does anyone know if I unlock it in a shop for 20$ it will unlock my firmware updates or just my sim ???

    Thanks
  • Paula · 6 months ago
When finally they will update it to feature pack 2 and if not if they do new update they should really do a huge update! like FULL SCREEN for contacts while they calling us! and other stuff! what is that another stupid update that dont bring anything!
  • Alvin · 6 months ago
There's no update for my E71 product code 0575944
  • sergey · 6 months ago
funny enough, all the new 'features' like facebook etc. go away if you do a hard reset after an upgrade. is this just forcing to use some software whis is not part of firmware? time to sue nokia? ;)
  • Stan · 6 months ago
Just updated and default applications now include MySpace, Facebook and YouTube.
  • Mark · 6 months ago
So an upgrade from 200.x to 300.x (what I can only assume is a major feature upgrade) consists of two apps that people can download themselves without the firmware and some "Other improvements" reference? Seriously? Nokia, time to hang the towel. Now you are just taking a piss at us.
  • Daniel Serodio · 6 months ago
I was wondering the exact same thing...
  • Kevin · 6 months ago
And still no Mac firmware update support...
  • GermanG72 · 6 months ago
I have a E71-2 code 0559585 and I'm living in Argentina. Nokia Update Software says there's an update available (v300....), but when I tried it said that my internet connection (or firewall config) are wrong. Both are OK. It seems a Nokia server side problem. I will check it later.
    Regards, GermanG from Argentina.
  • muhadi · 6 months ago
can anyone please confirm that helloox 1.0x dosen't work after updating
  • Daniel Serodio · 6 months ago
My E71-2 NAM (200.21.118) boots spontaneously at least once every 2 days... I hope this firmware improves stability.

I am from Pakistan and using 110.07.79
If i update to 300.24.012 will i loose urdu language and will my keys shuffle??
    Help ma plz!
  • S6. · 6 months ago
If an NSU tells you that there is an update available then you can install it ant it will not change your language and keys but if you decide to change your product code then they will most probably do
  • mdevji · 6 months ago
I updated my E71 fw to the 210... sometime back. Before doing so backed up my phone etc. Once installed all worked fine. As soon as I restored from backup had the following issue with browsing using WLAN, got the following error msg:

WLAN connection already active close it and try again

Nothing I could do would make the WLAN work so I had to start from scratch with the phone. Not a problem as the phone was fairly new.

So I go ahead and update the firmware again today to 300... and again backup etc. After install all works fine but of course when I restore from backup same error. I tried restoring everything except setting and it works fine, but as soon as I restore settings same problem. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do? If this is going to be the case everytime then its a problem upgrading.

    Any ideas???
  • funatech · 6 months ago
i do have the same problem... i've been checking some forum, but nobody seems to have an answer... if i got one i'll email you and vice versa

    here's my email: haroldfuna@gmail.com
  • tomsteenhorst · 5 months ago
    Hi,

Got the same problem with Operamini sometimes. Only solution is to get rid of operamini and install it again. Than the problem is solved.

    grtz, Tom
  • GermanG72 · 6 months ago
I don't use nokia backup utility. I only backup contact, calendar and notes (with Outlook) and after update i reinstall applications one-by-one. It seems hard but it is the only way. Using Nokia Backup ends in your phone behaviour. It happened to me with the others upgrades.
BTW I'm still not able to reach Nokia Upgrade Server (internet connection, but my internet is OK)
    regards, germang from Argentina.
  • Me · 6 months ago
I only backup contacts/cal/notes myself. But I rather do it online than using the Memory Card app restore. Thinking it might slow down the system by restoring some 'old' settings...

I use funambol app: I recommend it. You don't have to memorize a Sync profile. Just keep the .sisx file in memory card and install it after a reset/fw update...

Ok I've confirmed HelloOx 1.05 1.03 does NOT work with this new firmware :( I had to sign every single app now LOL :D
  • Keksz · 6 months ago
    I will skip this update.
  • Mark · 6 months ago
Is there already an official change log for the firmware update?
  • Narayanaswamy · 6 months ago
    :( :(
It has changed the font size to kinda bold and it looks yukky!
  • Rayaz · 6 months ago
Had to try over 4-5 times before the Nokia update downloaded the firmware successfully, not sure if it was a problem with my ISP or the Nokia server.

Nothing noticeably improved, and why Nokia can't offer an "Smaller" option to the font in addition to "Small" still frustrates me, as that screen specially in standby mode is poorly used. Handy Shell shows how the space can be used with smaller fonts which look good on the screen (Just that Handy Shell has too many usability issues once installed).

Though i don't have examples to share, the photo quality has improved more since the last firmware upgrade. The colors are a bit more accurate (though no where near to the true color yet), and the details more finer (maybe Nokia has optimized their noise removal software).

The sad dream that they would have enhanced their video capture mode to the original spec they had for this phone (VGA@15fps) though seems to be missing :D Hoping for too much i suppose. Though how Nokia can get away indicating wrong specs to the actual product feature, and not changing the spec until recently to match the phone capabilities is shocking.

    any news on australian update?
  • Mike Apale · 6 months ago
I tried to update to the latest firmware update awhile ago and the system prompted me that the update was unsuccessful. This also made my nokia e71 unit display a white blank screen even if I have closed down the nokia PC suite application from my PC and ensured that the USB connection with my e71 has been properly disconnected. Waited for about 2-5mins for my phone screen to revert back to the normal standby mode screen, but it did not refresh back to the normal screen display. So I opted to take out the battery and put it back to be able to restart my phone unit. Unfortunately, the normal nokia start-up & standby screen display never surfaced anymore. Had to bring it to the Nokia Care center in Glorietta 4, Digital Exchange area, Makati City. Bad news is they took my phone for technical check-up and hopefully they'd be able to repair it at level 1 check-up/repair routine or else i will have to wait for 2-3 wks before I get my phone unit back.

Has anybody noticed the annoying screensaver bug? The time on the screensaver is not updated automatically. Or, is it just me with this bug?
  • Eddie · 1 month ago
It's a bug indeed, but if you go to themes -> power saver -> and choose animation the time will now be correct.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

Damn, I still can't update it! It locates the update, but then fails, apparently when trying to download the firmware... Is it possible to download the firmware outside Nokia Software Updater?
  • GermanG72 · 6 months ago
I have the same problem. Mine is a E71-2 code 0559585. Nokia SW Update says there is an update v300... but when it begins downloading it fails.
My internet and firewall are OK.

    Regards from Argentina
  • E71 · 6 months ago
Having the same problem. My E71-2 was showing update to 300.x.x was available, but firmware download failed. Internet, Firewall, etc was fine. Now NSU is not showing update available anymore (since yesterday). I think something must be wrong on the Nokia side.... Hope they fix this soon since the new version seem pretty interesting to have. Cheers from Argentina
  • GermanG72 · 6 months ago
I found, in a site called Howard Forums, a tip from a user called Candyman and I could do the upgrade. Now my E71 is on v300.. and camera is taking very good pictures (compared with v200). Yes, there was a problem on Nokia server, one of the files (upgrade has 10 files) was missing, that is why NSU said about connection. Regards.
  • E71 · 6 months ago
Gracias German. Tried using navifirm, but mine is RM-357 and looks like 300.x is not available for that version :( I will keep researching.... Any tips will be welcome.

i have e71-1 and i just updated it to v300... now im NOT able to use my internet... any advice? thanks
  • anzigo · 6 months ago
*sigh* v300 is still not available for E71-2 NAM with latin-american keyboard layout. My product code is 0553094. Anyone in a similar situ? Thanks

Hi! I'm in North America. My service provider is Cincinnati Bell. I'm still at firmware from July of 08. Is there any way to update my phone to newest firmware? I'm really tired of random reboots for no reason.
  • bukbuk · 5 months ago
Has anyone using Vodafone in australia got it yet? im using the black e71 and still cant get it. it says my firmware is up to date. Code under battery: 0583153
  • tomsteenhorst · 5 months ago
Does anyone got this problem too?: My Audio settings are f*cked up after the update to v300. My equalizer doesn't work anymore just as the loudness option. The stereo enhanced on the other hand still works. Very annoying. Anyone got a solution?

So far tyhe only "bug" I've found. The stability of the phone is a whole lot better. It doesn't get so warm anymore when using Internet and the audio player at the same time. The quality of the camera may have improved a "little" bit but not as much as some people claim.

    grtz,
    Tom
  • RonLester · 5 months ago
Indeed, the equalizer settings and loudness control don't have any effect when using the supplied headset after the update. I got the same problem too. It is still okay with the built-in loudspeaker.
  • kokwei · 5 months ago
I am a Nokia E71 user (from Malaysia). Having used Nokia Email for almost 6 months, I am a satisfied user. Unfortunately, after the process of upgrading to the latest Firmware Version Version 300.21.012, I could no longer get Nokia Email "configured" on my phone. Here is what happened:

    1) Upgraded firmware to 300.21.012 using Nokia Software Updater. Everything went smoothly.
    2) Used the std browser and downloaded the Nokia Email client from email.nokia.com, installed successfully. When installing, I remember the app details was Nokia Email Version 9.05(75).
    3) I went to Menu -> Installations -> E-mail setup.
    4) Immediate I was prompted "Allow application to use network to send or receive data?". Pressing "No" will exit the application, so I went on to press "Yes". It hangs there forever!

At that point of time, I have an active 3G connection to the Internet. I tried switching to an available WLAN network to the Internet as well but the effect was the same (hangs after pressing "Yes" on the first screen of E-mail setup).

After much frustrations, I restored my phones factory defaults by entering *#7370# at the home screen. I suspected that the reason Nokia email didn't work was probably because the firmware upgrade wasn't entire "clean". When the phone came back up, I repeated steps (2) -> (4) above and the outcome was still the same!

I am now using System SEVEN as an interim until this issue is fixed by Nokia. I do hope that Nokia looks into seriously as it is a major handicap to business users if upgrading to the latest firmware causes Nokia Email to NOT WORK!

Did anybody faced the same problem ?
  • Aws · 5 months ago
    Hi....

Did anyone notice how the battery life was majorly shortened by the new firmware???
  • mrrbrrr · 4 months ago
    Hmm...
it seems like nokia pull back the 300.21.012, I’ve got my phone updated a month ago and now i can't replace the update (nor to install it to my other E71) because the update is no available any more. The only thing that keep me from changing the product key is that I want to keep my eastern european key settings. I also notice that the update service was not working for a week and after that period the problem appear. Did any one know anything about that ?
  • imranzaheer · 4 months ago
Guys, i have just recently uploaded the new firmware at my device... honestly its better, more stabled gone through with all the tiny areas of the device to check the performance and found "Better Camera Results", "little fast menu", "SIP ID more stabled". For all those who dont want to upgrade to run the cracked applictions, come on man.. give a shot on this firmware there is always a reson for the new firmware by the vender, if you are still using the old version probably not found any issues does not mean its bugg free ;-) ... all right.. chaooo
  • dieselxt · 3 months ago
Hi guys...I'm in South Africa, currently running fw ver. 210.21.006. The nokia site showed the availability of ver 300.21.012, but nokia updater does not seem to play along. Why is there different "updates" for the same phone, some guys (countries) can update to new version, others not. Is it possible to updates "around" nokia software updates, what are the risks and problems that may arise?
  • clazarev · 3 months ago
Do not install this update if you use Russian language!
