Nokia E71 Fanatics Blogs: Google Calendar & The E71: How Do You Sync?

  • bej · 1 year ago
only goosync, and nothing else :)
  • wez · 10 months ago
if you have Mail For Exchange, you can use it to sync with Google active sync server.

Nokia phones support SyncML. I hookup my phone to my scheduleworld.com account, based on syncml (using the basic nokia sync app) ... and scheduleworld.com syncs my google calendar. All for free :)
  • Mike Macias · 1 year ago
hey i haven't tried that thanks.
  • E71-Newbie · 1 year ago
I've also tried SW - works well, allthough I initially had trouble with duplicate entries. Scheduleworld is still in beta and could use an easier interface, but it's a good start. Also, the admin is very quick at addressing whatever issues (see forum).

    No longer free, unfortunately :(
  • kansir · 1 year ago
    Do you try Ovi Sync?
It's from Nokia, free service, sync calendar, To-Do, notes to ovi web site.
    It's still in beta, http://www.ovi.com
  • Mike Macias · 1 year ago
You know what I actually just tried it yesterday and it works great. I think it might replace google calendar for me.
  • SJ · 1 year ago
thanks. works perfectly. you can't sync public calendars though (like gcalsync), but it does what it does beautifully.
  • Mike Macias · 1 year ago
Which solution did you try? 1 or 2?
  • antoniocheca · 1 year ago
I recently switched over to Ovi, but the approach I used was sync'ng my calendar to iCal on my Mac and then used Google CalDAV to sync it over to google calendars

    http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answ...

I know it's quite an over-engineered solutions but oh well it worked... now with Ovi much simpler :)

I get System Error when trying to sync with NuevaSync, any idea why?
  • Mike Macias · 1 year ago
no clue. might be a problem with mail for exchange.
  • brades · 1 year ago
    NuevaSync server is down ;\

    Hi,

Any idea how to Synchronize my e71 Calendar with Lotus Notes calendar ?
  • Yagyaraman Mahadevan · 1 year ago
    Great option. Will certianly try.

On my E71, I get a System Error when I set to set a Meeting in the Calendar. Everything else works great. Even I did hard reset and tried. It does not solve the problem. Any idea on that....

I'm using the Nokia iSync plugin to sync my E71 with my Mac and SpanningSync to sync my Mac to Google Calendar - works perfectly. If you automate the iSync process you even don't have to do anything more manually...
  • bidyut · 1 year ago
Thank you! Awesome solution. And works like a charm. Now I have my E66 syncing with GCal and Ovi :)
  • Mike Macias · 1 year ago
Cool which method did you use?
  • id · 1 year ago
Can I only sync one of my google calendars and exclude the others (such as shared calendars from my friends?)
  • Sam Gonzales · 1 year ago
I have been using goosync and love it..it works great and its free. My current setup is google cal synced with iCal, nokia E71 and nokia N800
I wrote up a post when I finally got this calendra sync issue solved and it was easy

Tried the "GooSync" application on my nice n shiny E71. Worked a treat. If you do the free version you only get 30 days ahead but its good Enough for me.

I might almost be organised now :-)
  • Luke · 1 year ago
I run Tiger so I have a one way sync going:

Google Calendar subscribed to in iCal
Sync used to get iCal -> Nokia

Just have to go online to gCal to actually edit tasks though
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
Fantastic. I use Nuevasync on my Ipod Touch and it works great on the e71 also.
  • Radicke · 1 year ago
googsync works (normally) fine for me... however, today, it is down and it just says "hardware problems" on their page...
  • chester · 1 year ago
if you use linux, you can use this website :

    scheduleworld.com

You don't have to install an app on your e71, you only use menu=>tools=>Sync.

this is really efficient : i synchronize my google calendar with my evolution mail and my e71, everything is updated in both ways.. really amazing.
You can also save your contacts into your evolution and your notes.

Just google this thing there is a lot of good how-to to set up this thing.

    Try it !
  • John Rowley · 1 year ago
Thanks for this, however I can't quite get it to work. It's syncing nothing to my Calendar and the one time it did, it only synced 1 previous event and 1 future even!
  • Stoyan · 1 year ago
CalSyncS60 works fine with my device. You don't need to complicate your life with Nueva. CalSyncS60 is really simple and reliable, doesn't duplicate or creating mess. You will be happy with it!
  • SomeDood · 10 months ago
Didn't work for me on my e71.
  • Wendi · 9 months ago
My husband and I both need to be able to see and alter our calendar so that we know when to make appointments and when not to. Therefore, I am attempting to use Nueva but I can't seem to get Nueva to work on my E71. When Mail for Exchange attempts to sync after setup, I continuously receive:
"Syncing Calendar...." followed by "Connection Failed". I have uninstalled and reinstalled Mail for Exchange with no luck. And I have double-checked the settings.
    Any suggestions?
  • Mike Macias · 9 months ago
    I am now using www.goosync.com
  • Wendi · 9 months ago
Can two people access and alter the calendar?
  • extasis · 9 months ago
which FREE service will allow for multiple google calendars to get synced on the e71?

i.e., I am married and i rely on my wife's calendar just as much (if not more! ;)) as i rely on my own. Goosync (free) allows for only one calendar to be synced.

Does scheduleworld work with multiple google calendars?
  • Daniel Saunders · 7 months ago
Scheduleworld does work with multiple Gcalendars BUT it's just moved to a paid-only service. First month is free (I think).

Works really well for me - but I'm also looking for something free...
  • Wendi · 9 months ago
Ok, so now I am convinced that GooSync is the way to go! I have generated and updated all of my calendars (3 to be exact) in Google Calendar (I paid for the subscription to be able to have multiple calendars and have set my phone to sync with Google Calendar. However, I can not figure out how to tell my E71 to have multiple calendars. Does this work?
  • Jonathan · 9 months ago
Wow, ok so you say GooSync worked fine... I have a problem, after setting up nuevasync, and mail for excahnge on my phone, when I went on to my google calendar it had multiple entries of the same events, which does not occur on my phone calendar. Does anyone have the solution to this problem? maybe i should look into GooSync?
  • micjoh · 8 months ago
that happens normally when you have synced with more than one service. fx if I will tryout another service the google calendar sees it as new entries.
  • Ste · 7 months ago
i had (it sounds like) the same problem. i found out i still had a calendar sync from my time with scheduleworld. nuevasync works perfectly (for calendar entries) and can only recommend it (using with nokia N95)
  • Tom · 9 months ago
    Hi all!

The 'system error' problem when trying to sync seems pretty widespread among Symbian 60 phones. Mine is a Nokia E71, and while I like it, I'm really shocked by the amount of show-stopper bugs this device has, e.g. web browser crashes, flash player crashes, sync system errors.

Anyway, it seems I found a workaround for the system error (Systemfehler) bug while attempting to sync, via PC suite, iSync or whatever.

Here's what I did: I restored a memory backup I had made only two days ago, thus I copied the data back from the memory card to the phone memory. Of course, two days of changes were lost, which was ok.

While it's possible corruption of the calendar, contacts or whatever database had only happened in the last two days, I rather think the phone slightly rebuilds the data files or at least does some padding when restoring.

Thus, either copy back an old backup and loose some work, or perhaps do a backup when sync is not working and then do a restore afterwards.

If you want to be careful, you can copy the hidden backup file from the memory card on to another computer before overwriting it with a new backup. And in fact, this can be broused with the appropriate PC software (Nokim?), so actually nothing should get lost.

Anyhow, all is working fine now. Certainly a good alternative to reformatting your phone.

    Regards, Tom

I just installed Nuevasync following Mike's instructions on my E71. Thanks for doing all the work, it works:)
Previously had the free version of Goosync for three months which functioned like a charm. However in the last couple of days I get a system error and I decided to try a different syncing method.
So far one issue: creating a birthday event on the phone today sets it back by one day on my Google calendar. Quite odd. Starting in Google with a birhday event there is no problem, it shows up on the correct date in the phone.
    Keep my fingers crossed:)

I've tried alot (all?) solutions to sync my google calendar with my nokia. this is the only solution i've found that does it good/complete and free. :)
works very well. thank's for the write up.
I tried to sync my contacts too but I got a system failure after 100 contacts. This is apparently a known problem and an update is on schedule (already partially released) just not yet for my phone. So I'll wait with the contacts until the update is released.

    Hiya Mike...

Thanks very much for this write-up.

I've just installed NUEVASYNC on my E71 as per your super instructions, and it seems to be working semi smoothly, apart from some connection errors.

Just letting you know that your option 1: CalSyncS60 is now no longer free. But even so, I won't use it. I was using the beta version of CalSyncS60 for ages, and it really did not work. It didn't offer any control over what happened to the data.

    NUEVASYNC seems a terrific tool.

    Here's a quick question...

MAIL FOR EXCHANGE warns against using the PC SUITE to backup stuff. I'd LOVE to know how bad things get if one DOES use the two together. I'm a 'multi-backup' sorta dude, so I would like my data in various places. Any thoughts?

    Blue skies
    love
    Roy

ScheduleWorld becomes a pay service from May 12 :( I wonder if NuevaSync will do the same as soon as they emerge from a beta stage...
  • emb · 7 months ago
Seems likely, there are no free services which full syncing of Google calendar for nokia devices. It seems the iPhone has way more support with google than nokia :(
  • michael · 7 months ago
I have one problem with nuevasync/mailfor exchange and that is that it is not reliable if you just change the note inside the calendar entry. very often this is missed. irritating
  • John Hale · 7 months ago
Excellent - A great solution for calendar sync (Nuevasync). Hopefully Google will eventually release their own calendar sync, but until then this is free and it works.

    Thanks for the tutorial too

Any solutions for the E71x (AT&T)? I think the MfE stuff is different and I can't find it
  • brownstocking · 7 months ago
I am seconding JLDUB's request. I keep getting a MfE error, and I am trying to sync Oracle to Google to Nokia.
  • Andrew Gosling · 6 months ago
Great article - very helpful, thanks.
Set nuevasync up and works a treat.

    Much appreciated
