i really want to buy this, but really sad that it doesnt go with at&t 3g. i am using tmobile, but network coverage sucks. i was looking forward to switch to at&t cuz of e72 or n97. so i dont know. i might. i wanna hear the reviews about this big baby. and price will go down a lil later. if the phone is good in real life as in paper, i will stay with tmobile. cuz i want something stable, and good UI. this phone has it. well mike thanks for letting us know. it's cheaper than nokiausa.com :D

I just sold my N810 after I heard about N900. There's a lot of applications available for N7XX, 8XX series. N900 uses a new interface which is optimized for touch so many of the old applications may work and some may not. It will be just a matter of a short time before the old ones will be ported to the new version (Freemantle is the new version vs Diablo..N810). The application repository is quite extensive. Though I have to say there are a lot "project" kind of apps. Most needs can be satisfied with the applications that are available (mauku for Twitter and Jaiku for example and the new version which will be released with N900 will have Facebook support and the rest will be a matter of plug ins).

Mmm software looks nice, but why couldn't they use a four-row keyboard??? Only downside to the N900 IMHO.

Actually, I'm not sure how much 3rd party app support there is for maemo since I've never owned a Nokia tablet. Anyone?

Well then I take back my comment on Maemo Mike. I love Linux!
I buy my phones just for the OS and the amount of written software for it. And in case of my e71 just because it's a beauty ;-)
I never heard of Maemo either. But like to keep in touch now.

Maemo is a version of linux that Nokia created. It's meant to be run like a computer, and this is the first time they've added phone functions.

The UI is the best I've seen on any smartphone.

and is th hard drive flash memory or a little tiny hardrive aka the ipod?

I'm pretty sure the N97 will be the last flagship device to use Symbian S60,
same goes for the Nokia E72. New versions of Symbian are in the works and
Maemo takes the term "smartphone" to a brand new level.

Well, I'm bummed that it won't work with AT&T, but I guess it is a sign that I should stick with my unlocked E71 for now. I really do love it, and there's no reason to switch at this time.

Well nice piece of hardware. On the other hand why did Nokia use Maemo. Nokia is known for the full range of software written for Symbian. I like the phone and specs but I say no to the OS and say YES to my E71

Since it does not have the AT&T 3G frequencies I will not get the N900. T-Mobile doesn't have 3G in my area while AT&T has. Besides, let me be frank, after the N97 fiasco I will be very hesitant to pay so much money for another Nokia phone.
