Only worked if i send the message from skype (through text). If i send the lock code from a friends phone it doesnt lock it

If you forget your lock code, the only thing to do is "refurbish" the phone using Nokia's technician suite. You will lose all your data and the phone will be restored to a pristine state with a default lock code of 12345.

In the same settings area.. go to "lock if SIM changed" and set to yes. It's
just above the remote lock option.

Guys all these sounds good, but just think of tel number to which you will send sms, first thing what will be done by thief is to remove your sim card.

Just remember to remove the remote lock, before updateing your E71.. otherwise bye bye to your removable datacard...

Hi, I have been using this feature ever since I bought the unit in Jan 2009. Works like a darling. Anyways, regular users of this could alternatively enable the Phone Autolock period which also does the same function and when the phone is locked can only be unlocked by entering the 5 digit lock code. Go to the same screen as shown above and select the 2 fields above the remote lock period. A nice function from Nokia indeed.

If this is enabled, the phone will get locked when switch on after offline mode or restart the phone. You will need to enter your phone's lock code to unlock it. Cool feature.

I've tried that in my phone and worked like a charm.
The only problem is that my memory card got encrypted and I didn't have the key.
On the Encryption settings, it was showing as unencrypted so I've enabled it and created a key with the same value that the unlock code.
After enabling it I've disabled it and all the contents of the memory card were untouched. :-)

change your security code to whatever you want. that is just the code if you
don't set your own.

Seems a security risk if every single phone has the unlock code of 12345? Nevertheless I've enabled it on my E71 and no problems. Just hope I never need to use it.
